From Gender-Blind to Gender-Aware in Livestock Science: Practical Insights from a Re-Livestock Survey
February 11 at 16:30 (CET)
When researchers do not measure gendered roles and decision-making we often overlook who makes choices on farms, who carries specific responsibilities and risks, and whose work remains invisible in data. This can weaken our interpretation of findings and limit how well our recommendations translate into practice. By making gender visible in a structured way, we strengthen our understanding of how livestock systems function and change and we improve the relevance of our work in livestock science for farms, advisory services, and policy.
In this webinar, the Re-Livestock Gender Task will present first results from the gender module added to the PG Tool (a tool for assessing public goods delivered by farms) and will show how the module can be integrated with minimal extra effort while generating valuable new insights. We will also discuss what the data suggest about why women are critical for resilience in livestock systems and what this means for research design, advisory work, and project monitoring.
